In Practice: Kat Von D's Angeles Palette

I promised this a while back, and now that the Angeles palette is now on sale for $24, today is as good of a time as any to post this look I did.  This particular look was my half-attempt to recreate the look Kat Von D is wearing on her Sephora page.

This is what I used/where I used it:
crease/outer corner/lower lashline: Leather (matte milk chocolate brown)
lid: Venus (metallic copper)
browbone: Rehab (pale taupe with clear glitter)
inner corner highlight: Morphine (iridescent white)
eyeliner: Bukowski (teal with slight green shift) over Make Up For Ever's Aqualiner #11 (sparkling burgundy)

Other products used:
UDPP
Dior Iconic Mascara (black)
on brows: Kat Von D Lucifer shadow (matte black)
Sorry for the blurry pic!
I'll get a decent camera one of these days.

9/15/2011: I've been wearing this palette a lot lately.  It came with me on a recent vacation, and I created a different look every day with it. I did a look using a few shades from Angeles on Tuesday to add to my How to conceal acne marks post,  but since the focus of the look is on the eyes, why not post it here?
Far outer corner: Bukowski
Outer half/crease: Peggy
Inner half/brow highlight: Rehab
Lower lash line: Specimen

Other products used:
KvD eyeshadow in Lucifer (on brows)
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero
KvD Sin-full Mascara

PS: I've been using a new lash growth serum from Rimmel. Check out the difference between my lashes in the first and second sets of photos!

MAC's Bloggers' Obsessions! (and a look using KvD's Truth palette)

Who else hopped onto the MAC site as soon as the Blogger's Obsessions collection went live?  What a cool idea this was!  I think it would be awesome if this was a recurring collection (would once a year be too much?), but different bloggers were chosen every time.  I personally would love to see what Cora of Vintage or Tacky would have come up with!

From the collection, i only picked up the Hocus Pocus eyeshadow (created by Lianne at themakeupgirl.net) and the Evolution Revolution lipglass (created by Karen at makeupandbeautyblog.com.  Karen even shows 12 ways to use the shade she created!).  The eyeshadows Sparkle, Neely, Sparkle! and Jealousy Wakes were calling my name too, but I resisted. I feel like SNS looked similar to Rebekah (warm brown with gold micro glitter) from the KvD True Love palette, and I felt like i wouldn't wear Jealousy Wakes alot (even though it looked GORGEOUS).
Evolution Revolution

Even though all 12 of Karen's looks with Evolution Revolution were super pretty, I mostly got it in hopes it was a close match to my favorite (and limited edition) lipglass, Easy Lounger (from last summer's To the Beach collection).   Easy Lounger is a super sheer, cool-toned pink with pearls.  It looks good with so many different colors!  Evolution Revolution is a warm-toned milky coral with gold shimmer.  Sadly, not as close as I thought it would be, but it's still a pretty color!
R: Evolution Revolution L: Easy Lounger

I won't bother reviewing Hocus Pocus since it's sold out, but, if you're interested,  this is a look I did using this + the KvD Truth palette.

Products used:
UDPP
crease/outer corner: MAC Hocus Pocus (slightly shimmery dark grey w/ slight olive tinge & iridescent glitter.)
lid: KvD Long Distance (bright shimmery lime green with gold glitter)

Diorshow Iconic mascara
KvD Autograph liner- Puro Amor (matte black)

KvD's Truth Palette, a 2nd look

Hi! Remember all that not totally loving the Truth palette? Well, after seeing the looks XLadyGatesX did on youtube, I realized I was just approaching this palette all wrong. It's all about a soft, pastel eye, which I don't usually think of when it comes to the KvD line.

Here is today's look.
Lid: Snake Eyes
Crease/lower lashline: Galeano
Browbone/inner corner: Sugar Skull
Liner: Prague, used wet.

Do you have this palette? What are your favorite looks from it? I'd love to see what you've put together!

Look of the week: Sea green eyes

My camera wouldn't capture a good close-up, sorry!
Hi! A new eyeshadow (MAC's Contrast, a gorgeous, shimmering navy blue) recently made its way into my collection, but it remained untouched until this week.  It made a perfect compliment to some of the shadows in my Truth palette!  I'm excited to play with more looks using this color, but for now, here's the breakdown of this look:
Eyes
Urban Decay Primer Potion
from Kat Von D's Truth palette:
Finland (shimmering pale aqua) - used all over lid
Snake Eyes (shimmering apple green with gold pearl)  -outer third of eye/crease
Sugar Skull (pale white gold) -highlight
MAC Liquidlast Liner- Inky (navy blue with faint pearl)
MAC Contrast (slightly shimmery navy blue) -outer corner/crease, just a touch under the lower lashline
Dior Iconic Mascara- Black
Kat Von D's Lucifer (matte black) -brows

Cheeks
Benefit's Coralista blush

Face
Clinique's Acne Solutions Clearing Concealer- corrective green
Kat Von D's Tattoo Concealer- Light
MAC Studio Fix powder foundation- NC15
Make Up Forever HD powder

Lips
Kat Von D's Painted Love Lipstick- Lovecraft (matte nude pink)
MAC Lipglass- Easy Lounger (sheer pale sparkly coral tinged pink) *sadly, this was limited edition for last summer's To the Beach collection.

Did you have a favorite look for the week?  Tell me about it in the comments!

In Practice: green + purple look from Kat von D's Truth Palette

Here's the look I've been most successful with from the Truth palette (so far. Let's hope there will be more successes!).

Crease/outer corner: Prague
Lid: Long Distance
Highlight/inner corner: Sugar Skull

(other products used: High Frequency mascara in Lucifer, Autograph eyeliner in Puro Amor, eyeshadow in Lucifer [on brows], Tattoo Concealer in Light- all by Kat Von D. Also used: Urban Decay Primer potion)

I thought this looked a lot better in person, but maybe my light source was playing tricks on me? If so, maybe it's for the better. See how the colors don't blend completely smoothly into each other? Maybe these shadows would be better for a cut crease look?

If you have this palette and aren't having these problems, let me know! I'd love to hear the color combos that everyone has come up with, as well as any tips or tricks for these shadows!

In Practice: Kat Von D pigment in Ladyhawke

If you saw the swatch photo of my review of the Ladyhawke pigment, you may have thought, "How the heck could I wear that in real life?!" The general population probably won't think that a reddish color would look good anywhere near their eye area, but with the right color combo, you can really make it work!

Here's what I used:

  • crease: Kat Von D "LadyHawke" (deep red-plum with shimmer) pigment

  • lid: MAC "Dalliance" (antiqued silvery gold with mega shimmer)mega metal eyeshadow

  • highlight: Kat Von D "Tequila" (pale yellow shimmer)shadow (from the Ludwig palette)

  • eyeliner: Kat Von D "Puro Amor" Autograph eyeliner(matte black)

  • mascara: Kat Von D high voltage mascara in Lucifer (black) (sadly, this has been discontinued)

  • brow: Kat Von D "Lucifer"(matte black) eyeshadow (from the Ludwig palette)

Not pictured:

  • cheeks: MAC "Tenderling" blush (sheer warm nude)

  • lips: Urban Decay "Heavy" Lip junkie (sheer warm glossy nude)

Lesson: Using a more neutral shadow, you can tone down a color you feel is too intense. Just blend them together, et voila! It helps if the neutral shadow has some shimmer in it, to diffuse the level of intensity of the color you're trying to tone down.

If you haven't tried this before, let me know how it works for you!
